Dev Log 5: The First Playtesting

02/06/20232 min read

We completed our MVP and focused on playtesting it this week! In the development, we were able to have player movement and three abilities: dash, double jump, and glide. We only built a sample map based on our paper prototype, but it has helped set the foundation to make the five levels we plan to make. Also, we added background music to the gameplay.

Here’s an example of the dash ability in use with its animation:

During the two playtesting sessions we held, we gained great feedback from our peers and guests. For example, we need to adjust the keys used for controls and the indicators in the UI for a better player experience.

Finally, we also got a first draft of our trailer, kickstarter, and presskit complete. Please go check out our kickstarter page.

We’ve already made some decent progress in implementing more additions and tweaking our existing gameplay in accordance with the feedback we received. Our next step is to continue iterating by building our tutorial level and level 2. Then, we will find three more playtesters to continue collecting feedback. We hope to have more puzzles and challenges, including introducing a stamina system, while fixing the existing bugs. Finally, by the end of the week, we will publish our game for the first time on an online platform.
