Dev Log 8: Rollout the Second

02/27/20232 min read

Another week, another rollout, and this week we’ve added two new levels! We decided to extend our game out, so instead of 5 levels, one for each ability, you’ll get 9 levels. This week’s rollout focused on more dash and double jump obstacles to overcome and introduced a new ability: shield. Also, we are officially listed on Itch, so anyone anywhere can play our game.

One A/B test we are conducting is for the dash length. We want to see whether lengthening the dash will support players better. The distance covered is now about twice of what it was in the first rollout.

We also would like to discuss some stats from players for the first 24 hours of our rollout.

Above you can see the amount of time players took for each level. It was interesting that mostly players could finish the four levels in less than 10 minutes.

Next, you can see the number of players in each level. Retention seemed better than last week. We only lost one player at the start of each level.

Finally, we look at the ability usage. With more dash puzzles, players are using dash more in the part 1 levels, but they are using it less in the part 2 levels which focus on double jump. This could be because the dash is longer so there is no need to use it twice to cover the same amount of distance.

If you would like to see more data, feel free to take a look at our presentation on our second rollout.

After rollout, we began working on part 3 levels which focus on the shield ability. We have three new levels mapped out for shield and acquiring the grow ability. We implemented a moving hazard and also adjusted the glide ability and its animation for future use. Finally, we fixed some bugs that came up in our rollout. Although we are a little behind schedule, we are making great progress in finishing up our game in two weeks.

For other products, we updated our Kickstarter page, presskit, trailer, and design doc. We are also keeping up with our social media posts, so be sure to check it out if you haven't already!

This weekend we plan to roll out those three levels. Please look forward to it! Also, we will be finalizing our materials for our final presentation and convention poster. Next week in regards to game development will be mostly finishing the last three levels and hopefully getting some cutscenes into the game!
