With our final build and convention of the final week done, we bring this final dev log to you a bit early! Over the past week, we have been preparing for our final build. We added more sound effects including sounds for dying, taking damage, switching abilities, and using various abilities. Furthermore, we have added more variation to our levels' background music, so you now will hear 4 different songs as opposed to one. Finally, we have cutscenes! You can look forward to both intro and ending cutscenes which help to describe the story and context a bit more.
Here's a sample of the new music.
With the final build done and published on both Itch and Newgrounds, we presented it at the convention yesterday. We were very glad to see so many visitors of our booth try out Lumina. Overall the reception was great. One comment we received multiple times was the players' surprise when they found we had not 1, not 2, but 9 levels to offer. It was also very rewarding to watch players improve as they traversed the levels, and many of them stuck through with it to the end of the game. Our music and art assets were praised fairly frequently, and players had a lot to say about what they enjoyed and what aspects they would have liked to see be done differently.
You can see our convention poster below!
Although the course is ending and we may go our separate ways, the experience of making a game from one small idea was very fun and fulfilling. Thank you everyone for your continued support, and we hope you enjoy playing Lumina!
